She had taken a photo of Darel watching the game & hadn’t taken any good photos of the action on the court. So by default the crowd-picture of Darel had been the only photo she’d taken that was fit to be on the front page. So it didn’t help that a “fan” of the away team appeared in a newspaper that showed none of the local athletes or coaches weren’t photographed clearly at all. Church which Nicole attends.NAME: Abraham MartinWHERE: Northwest on the Plaza (Formerly a movie theatre called “The Grand.” )WHAT: Movie theatre remade into small church. Skeptics tend to call the place “Ain’t So Grand Anymore.”The church itself is generally a secret meeting place of worship to escape segregation laws. Pantry for families who need food is provided along with daycare and education for the folks who system doesn’t normally cater to. WHY: Nicole’s family is the only white family who attend meetings or some non-holiday services.

5/30/2008Segregation Period (=bleep= all foul words)J. Josephene - blackT. Jamision - Hispanicwealthy families; friends of Samamthacould care less about civil rights movementfew if any kids in school aren't whiteJohnson family only Jewish family so they have no synagog and see no reason not to attend a black church.

Every time Nicole climbs the stairs to the gym, she says the words "I have been to the mountain top." Whenever anyone asks her what she means, she references the MLK speech that had taken place that August.

Nicole Johnson may or may not be home-schooled during most of her educational life. As a sign of independence he decides to go to a regular high school in her neighborhood. She is increasingly shocked by the immaturity of the students around her & how completely unlike her parents the teachers are.
